Being the best

Who is the better musician: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Aretha Franklin, John Lennon? you could compare endlessly. One weekend around 2012 I had the chance to hear both Huey Louis and the News and The Steel Wheels. I think there was a third band I listened to, in a third venue, the same weekend, but I forget who it was.

When all was said and done, the best act in my opinion was the much lesser known band, The Steel Wheels. Yet while I was listening to the other two bands, they were the best band I was listening to in that moment.

You can worry about whether or not you’re the best _____ in comparison to the best of your competitors, or you can concern yourself with being the best you that you can be, in front of whatever audience you have right now. Which is more healthy? I think that’s apparent.
